When I was a young boy,
my mother and I used to share birthdays.

At one party, I recall my father eating mayonnaise.

I looked up and asked him,
“Hey Pop, what’s the taste?”

He said, “Try it for yourself, son.”

And I replied with an unsure face.

See, I didn’t wanna risk it,
’cause it looked weird and gooey.

He said,

“Son, you’ve gotta take risks.
Live life for yourself, truly.”

I hesitated for some time,
as all of this was so new to me.

If I spat it out,
I couldn’t deal with the scrutiny.

I was only three…

It was in that moment
I first exercised my free will.

So after some deliberation,
I just went in for the kill.

I put it in my mouth…

pause

And it gave me such a thrill.

I never knew a sauce so simple,
yet effective.

I’d neglected it.

In that moment,
it felt like I ascended.

I couldn’t have pretended
that I’d really comprehended

something so subtle, yet splendid.

It had to be recommended.

I often wonder…

if I never tried mayonnaise,

how my life could’ve ended.

So nowadays,

I try to step with that same mentality.

Doing shit that scares me,

to form my own reality.

‘Cause every action really matters,

you must understand the gravity.

And even if you mess up,

still look at yourself happily.

You see…

Life’s hard.

And it has its crazy days.

But the weight of not acting?

Man…

it really weighs.

It’ll have you stuck.

Trapped.

In a spiritual malaise.

So do it now.

Stop putting on delays.

It might be hard,

but I swear it all pays.

Anyway,

I hope this short story conveys

why I really, really do

fuck with mayonnaise.
