T7harrek
July 17, 2026
“Taharak” or “T7errek” is the Darija Arabic word for move. Commonly apart of every day Moroccan drivers’ vocabulary. “T7errek” illustrates the constant movement of Marrakesh especially after the weighted blanket of dessert heat is unveiled. With temperatures rising well above 40 degrees during the day, it is to no surprise The Red City truly reveals itself at night when people are actually able to feel cool outside.
However, I also want these photos to illustrate the fast movements of myself. Being ethnically Moroccan but born and raised in London puts me in this sort of limbo. Someone who is constantly in ”Taharak” mode who can’t really stay in one place, physically, mentally, culturally. To be from two places means the sacrifice of finding one place to stay and to embrace this Marrakesh mindset of “Taharak” to keep moving, making everywhere you go home.
